Sinus problems?: Many times sinus problems and post-nasal drip can contribute to bad breath as well as acid reflux. There are a number of reasons why you could be experiencing this. Cavities are only a part of the oral health story as well, and gum disease can be a big factor in halitosis too.

Gum disease?: Bad breath can be caused by several factors. Cavities are not usually one of them. However plaque buildup and gum disease are a common cause of bad breath. Other potential areas that can cause bad breath are post nasal drip and sinus problems as well as stomach issues such as acid reflux. The next step should be an examination of your gums to check for periodontal disease.

Explore options...: Likely, the cavities were not the primary source. Discuss other possibilities with your dentist including your tongue, gums, sinuses and oral hygiene.

Brush/scrape tongue: Cleaning of the tongue is often missed by people who believe they are demonstrating good oral hygiene. It must be done, or the odor will continue. Speak with your dentist about your periodontal condition; as it not just properly filled cavities that constitute total good dental supervision. Good luck.
