A member asked:

After taking levotiroxine for 10 years is my thyroid unable to work again?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid: It has less to do with how long you are on thyroid replacement and more to do with whether the thyroid has recovered function. One can measure antibodies against your thyroid and do an ultrasound to measure inflammation. You can wean synthroid (thyroxine) in an attempt to come off.
