Depends: This depends on the diagnosis of hip pain which can range from arthritis, to nerve impingement, to soft-tissue inflammation. Rest, over-the-counter pain meds, and low-impact exercise are usually a safe way to start. If you do not get relief, you should seek the advice of a board certified orthopaedic surgeon.

Start with primary: Conservative measures such as physical therapy and nsiads is a good place to start. The pain may be from your hip, sacroiliac joint or back. If conservative does not work then your primary can help with the diagnosis and send you to interventional pain management or orthopedics.
