Discuss options: Discuss your condition and options with your doctor and family. It is true that chest compressions will likely result in devastating injury that you will not be able to overcome (even if successfully resuscitated). But oxygen and medications can be used acutely to reverse some potentially fatal conditions, such as cardiac arrhythmias. Each case is different, and certainly you should be involved.

You decide: You are the one to decide if you want to be resuscitated . Do you want cpr? Do you want a machine to support your breathing? Do you want IV fluids to support you if you cannot feed yourself? These are items you must discuss with your family and your md and make your desires known. A medical power of attorney signed by you will allow your family to carry out your wishes on your behalf.
