Colic?: Something is bothering him. Often it is stomach or bowels but may be kidney or bladder. Is he sleeping well? May have sleep disorder. May be teething. A thorough pediatric evaluation would be appropriate.

Baby crying: I don't think you have anything to worry about. Some babies cry more than others and this is normal. Sometimes it's the parent who is actually more rattled than the child. Remain calm. Remember babies can cry for multiple reasons. More patience and experience will guide you. To be safe bring this up with your pediatrician at the next visit.

Confusion vs problem: The 1yo is at a problem point in development.He is starting to get around easier & doesn't need as much assistance but is used to getting every need met quickly by crying. Adults begin to leave the kid to their play & the kid is in full blown separation anxiety &/or feels mom or dad should stand by to assist at a moments notice.I find this behavior normal for the age & one that gradually fades.
