Other reasons for Wt: There are many other reasons for weight gain other than thyroid problems. A primary care doctor can check the thyroid hormones to see if they are normal, and to see if any increase in thyroid medication would be beneficial. Then, the doctor can look for all the other reasons for weight gain. If there are no medical disorders found, then the patient must eat fewer calories than she uses each day.
