Control cholesterol: The symptoms you describe suggest pain due to issues with the chest wall. However, cardiac disease remains a possibility. It would require physical examination and some tests to assess your health status. Please see your doctor for suitability for starting exercise, modification in diet and may be medication to reduce your risk factors for heart disease.

Chest pain: It sounds more like costochondritis ie inflammation of the chest wall at the costochondral joints, than cardiac - related. Try Motrin to relieve it. If you can press on your chest and feel pain -- it pretty much confirms chondritis.
