Normal : 117 before bedtime is normal for diabetics and non-diabetics. Glucose tends to drop during the night as we stay inactive yet our body is working so it has to burn some of it. If you use Insulin or pills that lower sugar before bedtime, 117 may be low because it will drop more abruptly if you did use the above meds and you may experience low sugar (<70) with resultant shakiness, hunger, sweatiness.

As close to normal: If you can do it safely without hypoglycemia, the best blood sugar reading at any time of day or night is as close to normal as you can get it. Other numbers are totally arbitrary and meaningless.
