Yes: Hemoglobin a1c is a good measure of diabetes status. A normal reading is around 5. A reading of 7.8 is very abnormal. The good news is you can change that by what you eat - go low carb (search low carb diets on the internet). That number will change slowly though because a1c is a 3 month average of blood sugar levels.
