Yes: It will take care of the hyperthyroidism but it might not be the best option for you depending on your individual characteristics. There are other treatment options. See your doctor to discuss what's best for you. After surgery, you will become hypothyroid and will need thyroid hormone replacement.

Depends: If the surgery is to remove your thyroid it certainly could. But surgery is my least favorite of three options for control.
