A member asked:

Is it possible to have bv without a fishy odor?

Yes: Bv is an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina, where the anaerobic bacteria overgrow. The condition can cause an abnormal odor, but can be present with no symptoms. The controversy is whether "mild" BV needs to be treated, especially if there are no symptoms.

Fishy odors: Sometimes disturbances to the natural bacteria in your vagina (douching, irregular bleeding, unprotected sex, etc) can allow abnl bacteria like Gardnerella to overgrow and cause a fishy odor. It's not sexually transmitted, but can be treated w/ Metronidazole(Flagyl)/Clindamycin/Boric Acid. See your GYN for a prescription and be examined for other potential causes. Nothing urgent/dangerous though.
