Normal: The aorta is the largest artery in your body. It travels against your spine just to the left of the midline. If you are thin and push hard enough you can feel it just like the pulse in your wrist.

See a doctor ASAP: A main artery, the aorta, runs from the heart down to the abdomen, called the abdominal aorta. If the walls of the vessel weaken and the artery bulges out like a big balloon, you may feel a mass in your stomach region and feel a pulsation. If this is the cause, get it seen soon because if the wall of the artery bursts, you will bleed to death rapidly.

Aortic aneurysm: Around 65yo, we recommend one time screening ultrasound in men who('ve) smoke(d) to look for AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm). Or we might order earlier if we feel especially large/wide bounding pulse in your belly. Best to go see your Family Doc for evaluation.
