A member asked:

What does it mean for someone who has crohn's disease to have a flare up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Patient gets sick: Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition of the GI track. If the inflammation is not controlled, patients have abd. Pain, diarrhea, possible nausea and vomiting, etc. This is what we call a flare. The tratment is to have consistent medical care with anti-inflmmatory and/or immunosuppressive drugs. Occasionally surgery is needed for disease which does not respond to medical rx.
