Underbite: Find a good orthodontist to correct the defect, so as to prevent teeth wear/tear & jaw joint pain.

Ortho v. jaw surgery: Broad question, but in a 30 y/o like yourself, an underbite is a surgical problem. It may be due to a large lower jaw or a too-small upper jaw. Orthodontics alone can't fix a skeletal problem like this in an adult patient without extracting multiple teeth, which is not ideal. Best results are obtained with a combination of orthodontic treatment to align the teeth and surgery to align the jaws.

Orthodontist: See one first and discuss treatment options. There is a good chance they will be able to address this for you.

Or: You need to be evaluated by an orthodontist. Treatment may involve ortodontics alone or in combination with jaw surgery depending upon the severity.

See orthodontist: An underbite or underjet is typically indicative of a skeletal discrepancy between the 2 jaws with the lower teeth (and jaw) forward of the upper teeth (and jaw). Seeing an orthodontic specialist will help to determine the best course of action for your particular situation.

Need team: Is underbite dental, skeletal, or both. See both orthodontist and oral surgeon (specialists, not gp) for initial evaluation. Probably will require team of general dentist ; possibly periodontist to make sure teeth ; gums/bone are healthy. Then orthodontist to align top teeth to top jaw, bottom teeth to bottom jaw. Oral surgeon will then reposition jaws to match each other. Fantastic results.
