Directly related: Binge eating is a way of coping with difficult feelings by turning to food. The behavior with food expresses underlying issues, conflicts or problems. Bingeing feels like “the” problem, but it is actually a “symptom” of deeper problems, emotions, or conflicts, such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, etc. When you respond kindly to your feelings, you stop using food to cope.
