Hypothyroid: Usually due to an autoimmune disorder called hashimotos disease. Runs in families -- women 7 times more likely than men. Inflammation of the thyroid gland can cause decreased function. One can test for both function and inflammation with lab tests. See a board-certified endocrinologist for expert advice.
