MAD: The machine, cpap, can be very effective. There are new designs of the masks, which can now cover just the nose, controlling pressure and direction isi proving that type of care. A mandibular advancement device, or mad, is made by a dentist. It holds the lower jaw forward to help, keep, the airway open. Also, sleep, position, weight loss, reduce alcohol can help.

2 other options: The CPAP machine is the best treatment, but it you cannot tolerate it, there are 2 other options. #1 see a dentist trained in treatment of sa and he/she may be able to make you an oral appliancce to improve your airway. #2 surgery, though not always effective.

Tap 3 snore guard: Depending on how bad your sleep apnea is, you can try the tap 3 snore guard appliance. This has to be professionally fitted. The appliances that you can order on the internet are practically useless. You should also ask your ENT specialist about the pillar procedure.

Surgery is an option: Surgery is an option for those who can't tolerate cpap. CPAP is the treatment of choice. Nasal surgery can sometimes lead to ability to tolerate cpap. Mild sleep apnea may be treated with dental appliances. The pillar procedure may help mild sleep apnea but in my experience isn't great. Surgeries of the palate, tongue and larynx can be very effective in the right patient, but can be painful.

Not as good.: There are surgical procedures and bite plates which can help, but the machine is the best treatment. If you're overweight and lose weight, you may not need anything.

Some helpful hints: There are things that can be done to help lessen symptoms and depending on severity, may eliminate them. Weight loss, avoidance of sedating chemicals or medications, avoiding supine sleep can help. There is an oral device that a dentist can make and some medical therapies from an ENT that can help. Pap therapy is still the gold standard treatment and splints the airways open.
