What are the risks of getting a nose job at 15?

6 doctors weighed in across 4 answers

Several: Besides the usual operative risks such as blood loss, anesthesia and infection, another risk is that the patient may not have the maturity to deal with all the stress or his/her new look. Surgery involves some blood and pain and if you feel icky just thinking about it, you may not be ready for the real thing. Also some teens think surgery will magically fix their lives. It won't; only the nose.

It depends on you: Rhinoplasty should be delayed till your nose is fully developed. In some women 15 years old may be fully developed but in a man it is wise to wait till 16 to 18.

Same: Same risks as an adult if you are healthy and your face is mature enough to get the surgery. See a rhinoplasty surgeon for a consultation.

Age for rhinoplasty: Typically a rhinoplasty is performed after menarche or the growth spurt in order to avoid mid face growth issues that can occur when the septum is manipulated. Be sure to have your nose evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.
