Refractive error: These are the names of different refractive errors. For clear vision, light must be focused by the eye onto the retina. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is when the eye focuses light in front of the retina. Hyperopia, or farsightedness, is when the eye focuses light behind the retina. Astigmatism is when light does not come to one focal point but is spread over a range.
