Makes them worse: For many or even most people suffering from bipolar disorder, the combination of alcohol and their manic state is like dynamite. Alcohol almost always causes those with mania to become much worse. Also, alcohol usually does not mix well with the medications used to treat bipolar d/o. Alcohol can lead to adverse and unpredictable reactions when mixed with medications and can also neutralize them.
