Inpatient Psychiatry: Sometimes patients with psychiatric illnesses need inpatient treatment in psychiatric hospitals, or on psychiatric units in general hospitals. Psychiatrists, nurses, various therapists, social workers and aides work in teams. Patients receive individual and group therapies, and medications are optimized as needed. Most admissions are short-term, unless the person is too ill for discharge.
