Is leukemia related to ms?

4 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Unlikely: There is no direct association of leukemia to ms or vice versa. However, a powerful drug used in ms, novantrone, can cause myelocytic leukemia in 1/132 pts. Rarely, pts on Copaxone (glatiramer) have encountered disastrous cancers or leukemias, but no relationship has ever been established, so far. All of this leads neurologists to be very careful with the newer immune agents!

not usually: While immune disorders can be associated with a number of other systemic issues, this is not a typical combination of problems.
