A member asked:

Why can't i take antibiotics for group b strep before labor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doesn't help: About 1/3 women carry gbs in their GI or genital tract at any one time & can disappear & reappear at any time. Past research tried eliminating gbs carriage by giving abx during pregnancy but did not prevent reappearance of the germ at the time of delivery.Abx during labor does seem to have great benefits.
