Wish we knew: That is a question that as an allergist is very perplexing. In most people with chronic hives (ciu), hives going on for longer than 6 weeks, we do not find an external cause. Rather most people with ciu have very sensitive mast cells and basophil cells that readily release histamine causing the itching, reddness and swelling. Consider seeing a board certified allergist for evaluation & treatment.
