Diabetics are at : High risk for coronary aretery disease. They should be treated as though there is coronary artery disease(blockages) even if not documented. That said , blood pressure needs tobe controlled, cholesterol treated aggressively, stop smoking, diet and exercise.

Complex subject: Diabetes is an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease and a heart attack. Also severe diabetes can attack your autonomic nervous system increasing the risk of arrhythmias of your heart and even sudden death. Heart disease and stroke is the no.1 cause of death in diabetic patients. Also, when your kidney failed as a comp of dm, your heart may suffer too increasing the risk of chf.
