It depends.: Tamoxifen is used to treat hormone-sensitive breast cancer. This is determined by checking for estrogen receptors (er) and Progesterone receptors (pr) on the cancer. If the cancer is er+ and pr- (or vice-versa), it should respond to tamoxifen. However, if the cancer is er- and pr-, tamoxifen is not effective.
