Fast, as in 1 week.: Most cholesterol medications will maximally lower cholesterol levels in about a week, however other cardiac benefits such as plaque stabilization may occur even sooner. I typically retest lipids 6 to 12 weeks after starting therapy as this allows time for all laboratory indices to stablize.
