Prevent fat absorbti: Alli promotes weight loss by decreasing absorption of fat by the intestines, which reduces the number of calories you absorb. Lipase, an enzyme found in the digestive tract, helps break down dietary fat into smaller components, so it can be used or stored for energy. Alli works by disabling lipase, which prevents the enzyme from breaking down the fat while it's in intestine and poop undigested fat.

Block fat absorption: Alli works by blocking some of the absorption of fat. It is supposed to be combined with dietary changes which reduce the overall fat intake and portion sizes. Several pills are taken throughout the day (prior to meals). The side effects may include abdominal pain and rectal leakage of some of those fats that go unabsorbed.
