Anesthesia: It can be local or general. It is usually the doctor that decides.

Either: Local anesthesia, local with sedation, or general anesthesia. It depends on the size of the mass, the exact location, and patient/surgeon preference. Discuss it with your surgeon and come up with a plan you are comfortable with before the day of surgery.

Sedation or General: This depends on the nature and depth of the lipoma. A very small and superficial location could be easily managed with local anesthesia and IV sedation. A deeper or larger lipoma might need general anesthesia to aid the surgeon in removal.
