A member asked:

Can you reverse swollen gums due to gingivitis?

Yes: Gingivitis is the early, reversible phase of periodontal disease. It is characterized by swollen, red, and bleeding gums. If it is not controlled, it can progress to full-blown periodontal disease (which is characterized by gum pocketing and irreversible loss of supporting bone). It is most commonly caused by inadequate biofilm (dental plaque) control, with the remedy being improved home care.

Absolutely: Gingivitis is a completely treatable/reversible disease. A good cleaning and then good oral hygiene habits will enable this to resolve.

Good news: Yes. By definition gingivitis is reversible with treatment, good home care and continuing care with your dentist.
