A member asked:

Can a general surgeon operate on a brain just like a neurosurgeon would?

No: As a general surgeon, who works as a trauma surgeon, i would only attempt an operation on the brain in the direst of emergencies. Our training is very different and highly specialized.

NO: Outside of tv, there is no "do it all" doctor. Aside from the true emergency in a small town when emergency decompression for head bleed may require craniotomy, no modern day general surgeon is trained nor in most cases wants to take on the liability of brain surgery.
