Diet Secrets: Here is what we really know. To lose weight one must move more and one must eat less. Now specifically, a diet that works should be 1500 to 1800 calories, and be divided as follows: 60% of calories should be protein; 25% should be carbohydrates (and no more) and 15% from fat calories. Exercise should be at least twenty minutes of an aerobic activity that raises the heart rate to 130 bpm.
