A member asked:

If you accidentally puncture a varicose vein in your left leg will keeping firm pressure on it stop the bleeding?

It will help: Depend on the size of the puncture and the location of the vein. Get medical attention immediately.

Yes: Get off your feet, elevate the left leg above your heart, keeping firm pressure on the bleeding site for at least 15 minutes. It would be best to place a dressing over the bleeding site first if possible. After applying pressure for the duration, check the site, and if there is continued oozing, apply a compression dressing, place an ice pack over the site for another 15 minutes.

Dr. Ted King answered

Yes: Pressure and leg elevation is the key. Elevate your legs and apply pressure for 10 minutes without letting go. If that doesn't stop the bleeding, do it again. If that still doesn't work, seek medical attention.

Vein: Yes but must also elevate the leg to reduce the pressure of the vein If you have bulging veins it is in your best to be evaluated and treated
