See Phlebologist: You have venous insufficiency, and probably have leg discomfort and perhaps swelling. The vv may get firm when legs are in dependent position, and collapse with legs elevated above the heart level. Seek help of a phlebologist by going on www.Phlebology.Org and place your zip code to find one in your area who can evaluate and treat your problem and relieve your symptoms.

Phlebitis?: As dr. Halimah said, you could be having repeated episodes of phlebitis but with only firmness and no pain, redness, and warmth, it is less likely. Varicose veins will become firm with prolonged standing, even without phlebitis. Regardless, you have a varicose veins that is bothering you and it would be worth it to see a vein specialist, as dr. Isobe suggested.
