Productive cough: A upper respiratory viral infection will start in the nose and throat, causing clear drainage and sore throat. Towards the end it will generally spread to lungs, causing cough, and viral bronchitis. If the cold lasts longer than about 10 days, and the drainage turns green or yellow, it may very well be a sinus infection. If your cough produces yellow mucus, it could be pneumonia. See a doc.
