A member asked:

Can the mirena (levonorgestrel) cause depression? i have been on the mirena (levonorgestrel) for 2 years after my son was born and i feel sad all the time.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Some people are more sensitive to the hormone in the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. Some women too may suffer postpartum depression which if untreated can linger for a long time . Talk to your md about alternative contraception such as paraguard.
