I believe this...: Is related to your prior question about renal cell cancer. In the pathology report, the pathologist will note that necrosis is visible in the specimen. Necrotic areas are dead cells, usually due to lack of blood supply. This has no impact on the fuhrman grade of the tumor cells, which is based on how the nuclei of the cells appear. Necrosis is a common finding, with no impact on prognosis.

Necrosis: There are some cancers where the presence of necrosis is significant (e.g. Some in-situ breast cancer), however, necrosis can often be caused by a tumor outgrowing its blood supply or may be caused by some treatments. Necrosis would typically not increase the grade of a cancer, but when present in large amounts is often mentioned in a pathology report.
