A pathology report: Is generated after kidney biopsy or surgery & will describe the cell type, gross, and microscopic appearance. In larger, more rapidly growing tumors, the cancer can outgrow its blood supply, leaving areas of necrosis. Sarcomatoid differentiation, if detected, indicates a more aggressive cancer. The exact percentage often is, but may not be noted. In biopsy specimens, total % is unknown.

How it looks: By looking at the slide, pathologist will give very useful information and can predict the prognosis.Necrosis means lot of dead cell , good , body is reacting or tumor is growing rapidly. When it has sarcoma like appearance, is' sarcomatiod, ' , team approach is needed for final conclusion of treatment plan.

Necrosis: Necrosis does not increase the stage of a kidney cancer, but is an indication of a tumor outgrowing its blood supply. It may or may not be mentioned in a pathology report. A sarcomatoid kidney cancer, though, is a more aggressive subtype of kidney cancer and requires prompt therapy and should be explicitly stated, if present, in the pathology report.

Dying cells: Necrosis refers to part of the tumor that is dying, presumably because the tumor is growing too rapidly. There is some evidence to suggest that necrosis indicates a worse prognosis although it is not yet included in the required reporting. However if a procedure called embolization is performed to cut off blood flow to the tumor, this type of necrosis is not necessarily bad.
