What could cause a black spot in bowel movement?

Several causes: Black spots could be from iron either tablets or if concentrated in foods like broccoli. It can also be from the bismuth in pepto bismo. Gastrointestinal bleeding from an ulcer can cause black tarry stools, but it is usually more than just a single spot.
