How long will it take to become resistant to ambien (zolpidem)?

Unknown: My experience has been that people do not really become resistant to it so much as they become reliant on it. Few people need doses higher than 10mg and typically don't routinely need higher doses of the medication over time. Technically, it should be used in the short term, but practically there are many people on it for longer periods of time (years) - there is little known about long term fx.
