Not good: Higher doses of Ambien (zolpidem) don't really seem to be significantly more effective but are associated with increased adverse effects. If 10 mg isn't working it is better to look for causes of this more severe insomnia - depression, anxiety, some other cause that might respond to something other than ambien (zolpidem).

Ambien (zolpidem): If taken as needed, you might try. Also, if Ambien (zolpidem) 10mg. Stops working, you might talk to your doctor about trying ambien-cr 12.5mg.

Yes: Ambien (zolpidem) if taken every night without a several day break occasionally will get less effective. You should always do well with 10 mg. Stop on a weekend during which you should have a couple of good days of relaxation and exercise and then restart for the days of stress when you can't get to sleep.
