How do you define anoxic brain injury?

No oxygen: An anoxic brain injury is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain. This can be global in nature, as in chocking or near-drowning, or it can be local, as in a stroke.

Inadequate O2 : Anoxic brain injury occurs when the brain does not get enough oxygen. This may occur in pathological states when the entire body does not get enough oxygen (ie. Drowning) or when the region of the brain does not get enough blood flow (ie. Stroke or cardiac arrest). The end result is neurons that die. The brain is particularly sensitive to anoxic injury and this has a poor prognosis.

Too low oxygen level: Anoxic brain injury is the result of there being too little oxygen being carried in the blood to the brain. tissue. This causes brain cell metabolism to fail and brain cells are damaged or die.
