Which is better to take, time released or fast acting pain medication?

Short acting or long: This really depends on whether you have acute or chronic pain. In general short acting meds are used for acute short duration pain that not long lasting. Long acting meds in general are used for long term longstanding pain.

I was prescribed Buspirone as a as needed basis. I questioned this and told it was fast acting and would help anxiety symptoms in the moment but for on going therapeutic effectiveness it would be prescribed as a routine medication. Is this true?
