Detox: Suboxone is traditionally used for detoxification from opioids. There are some physicians who may use it for pain management but it is not the drug of choice.

Opiate Dependency: Suboxone contains Buprenorphine (bupe) and a short acting blocker called naloxone. Bupe is a semi-synthetic partial opiate agonist. That means, it has very unique properties compared with other opiates like hydrocodone and oxycodone. Bupe can take away the cravings for opiates. It's also used for pain and is now available in a skin patch form called butrans. Suboxone is for opiate addiction.
