See a specialist: If you have been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia then treatment of your tmd may be difficult and may require you to see a specialist in facial pain disorders or neurologist. If the neuralgia is from a different nerve then you should see a dentist to address the tmd and another doctor can treat the neuralgia separately. Most tmd's can be treated successfully with bite splints. Good luck.

A suggestion: Symptoms may be related, or not related. Start with advice from TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
