Popping is a Symptom: Popping is wear and tear damage to the TMJ temporo-mandibular joint. Clenching, grinding, bruxism can damage the joint as well as excessive gum chewing. Both normal and excessive wear of the teeth can lead to changes in the bite that may have pain and popping of the tmj. See a dentist trained in diagnosing TMJ problems, preferably one who use the t-scan to record tooth contact timing and pressures.

Bruxism, TMJ: Occurring at night strongly suggests night time teeth grinding. Can become a serious problem. Can lead to TMJ (jaw joint) problem. See your dentist for management.
