Can be normal: The usual age for onset of menstruation is age 11 in the us. However, precocious puberty is defined as onset of menstruation before age 9. It is normal for the first period to be heavy and often long. If it continues, there is treatment to prevent missed school days.

MENARCHE: The first 2 years after menarche , the mens. Are irregular, sometimes heavy or light and at times no bleeding. This is normal.
