Different diseases: Acid reflux - burning in mid epigastrium radiating up into chest / esophagus, often worse at night, associated with certain foods, water brash, cough, hoarse voice, nausea, chest pain. Esophagitis - pain with swallowing, often burning or cramping along esophagus, worse with certain foods and temperatures.
