Probably so: A thin strand of floss is not as effective at cleaning large spaces between teeth as a waterpik, proxy brush, or even a small tooth brush. Floss is best at cleaning those small, tight spaces between teeth that other cleaning instruments just can't reach.

Good idea: I like water piks. In my orthodontic practice patients who use a water pik every day get out of braces sooner and with less gum problems. Recent research has shown that water piks are very efficient at disturbing and removing dental plaque. Go for it.
