Dr. Stephen Yoo answered

Specializes in General Surgery

Mild rectal inflamma: Proctitis refers to rectal inflammation. The rectum is roughly the last 15 cm of the large intestine. Many causes can cause proctitis from infection, to inflammatory bowel disease such as crohns or ulcerative colitis. More diagnostic information such as cultures and biopsies should be performed to help guide the management. Agents to cool the inflammation like suppositories or enemas can be given.
